1. Start a food truck ($18M/year)

Jeffrey Mora from Los Angeles, California, USA started Food Fleet almost 10 years ago, a food truck.

  • Revenue: $1,500,000/ month
  • Founders: 2
  • Employees: 6
  • Location: Los Angeles, California, USA

We started the food truck business in 2012.

We kept finding it very difficult to find locations to operate. We had a booker that we used to find our locations but fell short and we let her go. I took over our booking and found that most people did not want to book just one truck, not only that they were upset that most of the time the trucks didn’t show up or were late.

We learned the real need was not only helping the trucks but providing a turnkey service for the corporations. This was a game-changer for us, we were really struggling financially.

2. Start a dog walking business ($648K/year)

Melodi Landi from Remote started Furry Fellas Pet Service LLC over 15 years ago, a dog walking business.

  • Revenue: $54,000/ month
  • Founders: 1
  • Employees: 19
  • Location: Remote

I have always had a passion for animals. I was going to school full time at the University of Rhode Island as a Pre-Vet student while working full time at a local veterinary hospital AND picking up pet sitting and dog walking clients on the side.

Since my late teenage years, I have known that I wanted to work with animals. While working at the animal hospital, I saw a great need for this type of service, and soon after decided to start this business!

I would often come across clients who had not traveled in years because their pets required specialized care or medications or because they did not know who to ask or whom they could trust with their pets and their home.

3. Start an online language coaching business ($2.88K/year)

Marlena Jorn from Windermere, FL, USA started Marlena Jorn Tutors about 1 year ago, a online language coaching business.

  • Revenue: $240/ month
  • Founders: 1
  • Employees: 1
  • Location: Windermere, FL, USA

I have been learning German since I was twelve in 2007. I first went to German-speaking countries two years later, and after stepping off the plane back home in Chicago, I knew that I wanted to devote my life to it. After college, I worked exhausting service jobs. In March, I finally leapt off the edge and applied to teach German on Outschool. I was accepted, and I have been teaching there since with a 4.7/5 rating!

There will be many discouraging moments, many "No"'s. This is completely normal and part of the journey for many entrepreneurs, including myself. Keep pushing yourself, and you will get through the tough times!

With six months of teaching under my belt, I finally felt that it was time to branch out to something of my own. I contacted some people who I knew were interested in learning German, and we began private Zoom lessons. I created my website this October, and Marlena Jorn Tutors was born. I knew this was the right time after being contacted by a family asking me to teach three of them privately. I saw that as my opportunity to finally take that leap.

4. Start a personal training business ($720K/year)

Chris Anderson from Overland Park, Kansas, USA started Live Fit almost 11 years ago, a personal training business.

  • Revenue: $60,000/ month
  • Founders: 1
  • Employees: 1
  • Location: Overland Park, Kansas, USA

I started Live Fit because I felt I was running out of options in the industry I loved so much. Personally, I felt the misses in the personal training industry and wanted to change that. Personal Training, as well as all types of fitness, can be very intimidating to most people. And honestly, the people that are most intimidated by fitness are often the people that need it the most. I set out to create a company that provided the same types of exercises, programming, and results as generally all fitness companies, but I wanted to make it a comfortable experience from the moment a potential client stepped through our doors.

All our processes, our studio layout, our team of trainers we have hired, and our entire mission are based on making clients feel comfortable, appreciated, and valued. We do things differently and over the past 10 years, I have seen other companies in our area follow our lead. Long gone are the days of slamming weights, extremely loud music, and uncomfortable gym environments. People want to go where they feel comfortable and respected.

I have always loved sports and started at a young age, with my dad as my coach. I continued athletics through high school and went on to run college track where I based my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees entirely on building my career in the fitness industry. The last thing I was willing to do was to throw it all away based on a lack of opportunity, so I created my own with Live Fit. I believe in spirituality and the law of attraction and base my life on those principles. So in early 2011 when I couldn’t focus on my spiritual study and spiritual growth because my mind was consumed with running numbers about opening my own company, I knew that was a sign from God it was time to create something great.

5. Start a sports coaching business ($57.1K/year)

Sarah Wolfer from Mariánské Lázně, Northwest, Czech Republic started Girl Boss Sports about 3 years ago, a sports coaching business.

  • Revenue: $4,759/ month
  • Founders: 1
  • Employees: 1
  • Location: Mariánské Lázně, Northwest, Czech Republic

As an athlete and coach myself, I have experienced many situations that left me feeling dismayed at the state of affairs for women and girls involved in sports. I recall one such instance where I was playing at a very competitive level and the head coach screamed at me from 2 inches away with every expletive he could think of in front of our entire team because I asked him a question about the drill that was being done. I still vividly remember the spittle flying out of his mouth and hitting me in the face and not knowing what to do. The powerlessness I felt at that moment, coupled with the lack of appropriate response by the system when I reported him left me feeling hopeless for my future in sports. I ended up quitting soccer and refused to touch a ball for an entire year.

On the coaching side - as someone with 16 years of experience now, there are still instances in which I am treated differently than my male counterparts. One such example was when I was on the sideline waiting for the referee to come over and check my team prior to the start of the game. I was dressed in my coaching attire, had the whistle around my neck, the clipboard in my hand, and the player cards ready to be presented when the referee walked over to our sideline. He made eye contact with me and then proceeded to walk over the dad who happened to be on our side tying his daughter’s shoe and assumed that he was the coach.

Take time for yourself! Being an entrepreneur is hard work and you can’t do it to the best of your ability if you haven’t taken time for yourself to rest and rejuvenate. Self-care is integral to success.

6. Start a cloud management software ($144K/year)

Alin Dobra from Romania started Bunnyshell ago, a cloud management software.

  • Country: Romania
  • Revenue: $12,000/ month
  • Founders: 3
  • Employees: 15

Hi there! My name is Alin Dobra and I’m the CEO and Co-founder of Bunnyshell, a managed cloud automation SaaS solution for applications that need 100% availability and reliability.

I come from a background in software engineering, with about 10 years of experience in building big projects. I started in 2011 and became known for building efficient systems, following defined processes that continue to work as the company scales. That's sort of what led to Bunnyshell.

I’ve always loved to automate things so I was looking for a way to set up servers across different cloud platforms, automate, launch and provision, deploy, monitor, scale, and stay secure. No time wasted, no specialized and expensive sysadmins required, no testing needed, no hidden costs.

8. Start an online form builder ($5.04M/year)

Florin Cornianu from Romania started 123FormBuilder almost 14 years ago, an online form builder.

  • Country: Romania
  • Revenue: $420,000/ month
  • Founders: 2
  • Employees: 90

Hey, guys! I am Florin Cornianu and I am an entrepreneur. First things first, I must confess that I’ve been a bit reluctant to write these answers. It’s not that I don’t enjoy sharing my experience - I do - but I feel like the stories truly worth telling are already being told by the work, the teams I’ve helped build, and the value we bring to our clients. In any case, my colleagues at 123FormBuilder argued quite persuasively that I should open up to you guys, so I must oblige, and I will do so wholeheartedly.

I co-founded and am currently acting as the CEO of a growing SaaS called 123FormBuilder. In case you haven’t figured it out by glancing over the brand name, our cloud platform provides users with the ability to build and publish any type of online form, streamline workflows and notifications, and, most importantly, easily collect and manage accurate data.

We are based in Timișoara, which is the most western city of the most eastern EU country: Romania. However, most of our users are based in North America. We have almost 100 employees, some of whom are working from Bucharest, Oradea, London, and other European cities.

9. Start a freelance app development business ($2.4M/year)

Georgina Lupu Florian from Romania started Wolfpack Digital ago, a freelance app development business.

  • Country: Romania
  • Revenue: $200,000/ month

  • Employees: 60

Hi everyone! I am Gina and I am the founder and CEO of Wolfpack Digital. The name of the company stems from my surname “Lupu”, which means “Wolf” in Romanian. We are an award-winning app development agency from Romania with an in-house team of 50 people. We design and build web and mobile apps start-to-end for startups and scaleups from around the world, while advising them with their business and product strategy. This has given me the opportunity to personally work with more than 40 entrepreneurs so far and to learn more about their business, which is super exciting!

The main industries we focus on are fintech, health tech, IoT, social and transportation. Most of our customers come from the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, and France. More recently, we started the journey to building our own apps in the health tech and Greentech fields, and we have won an accelerator competition with Pamble, our in-house health tech app for gambling addiction treatment.

This year Wolfpack Digital has exceeded the 1.5M USD yearly revenue threshold, yet what we are most excited about is the great atmosphere in our team and our amazing office space, coupled with the fact that we get more and more opportunities to work on meaningful apps with inspiring founders.

10. Start an etsy digital products business ($48K/year)

Ralu Petrea from Romania started Outline Planner about 3 years ago, an etsy digital products business.

  • Country: Romania
  • Revenue: $4,000/ month
  • Starting Costs: $500
  • Founders: 1
  • Employees: 1

I’m Ralu Petrea, the founder (and UX Designer) at Outline Planner, the paperless planner that took me one week to launch and two years to refine. I started this project as a test, with a €499 initial investment, and it paid off since my first week. It is my full-time job two years later, and I am now open to growing my team.

I always make plans that work for me, yet I don't know how to teach people how to make plans. So, I created a tool that they can plug in and play with on their iPads. I embedded my mind into this instrument to make actionable plans in a more logical and organized way.

Before moving forward, I should mention what paperless planners (aka digital planners) are. Literally, they’re JUST like physical paper planners that live on your tablet. Picture an easy to carry notebook that has all your life inside; that feels like writing on paper, yet it allows you to add endless space for notes, arrange pages, correct mistakes, add images, and move your handwriting all over the place effortlessly. That's a digital planner.
