Here they are:
1. Start an event planning business ($420K/year)
Akshay Patel from Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA started Simply Decor and Events ago, a event planning business.
- Revenue: $35,000/ month
- Founders: 1
- Employees: 2
- Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
I always had an eye for decor whether it was with my room, home, or anything. I was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, and went to college at the University of New Mexico where I got my bachelor’s in Biology and a minor in Psychology. All along with my schooling, I was following the path to becoming a dentist which I thought was my passion and what I enjoyed. When I graduated high school I wanted to throw myself a big party. So my dad gave me a budget of $3,000 which had to include the venue, DJ, catering, bar, and decor.
I learned that when advertising you have to try different and unique ideas. From this you will learn what will work for your specific clientele, this process is a trial and error.
Of course, you know when you want a real fancy party the venue usually takes most of the budget, as it did. I was left with $200 for decor. I then began talking to decor companies and found that everything I wanted was not going to be possible with that amount. I thought out of the box and began making all my own decor.
2. Become an online dating consultant ($62.4K/year)
Shane White from Austin, Texas, USA started The Match Artist about 5 years ago, a online dating consultant.
- Revenue: $5,200/ month
- Founders: 2
- Employees: 0
- Location: Austin, Texas, USA
I have always been an entrepreneur. When I was in high school, I wanted to start my own business, so I took to one thing that I knew how to do- mow lawns.
Afterward, while I was in college, I started a mobile DJ business, which was a great way to earn some extra cash in college. After graduating from NDSU with a degree in Computer Science, I took a full-time job working as a software developer. While working as a developer, I really wanted to start a SaaS Company, which translates to “Software as a Service”, so I did just that. I created Midwest Streams - Simple Funeral Webcasting, which helps funeral directors webcast their funerals.
I ended up spending too many hours working on Midwest Streams while I was at my software developer job, so my employer fired me. (If you are reading this, I really am sorry!) This happened in February of 2014, and Midwest Streams was only making $400 a month. I decided not to go back to work and try my hardest to grow my company. I had some savings, but burnt through it pretty quick, as it’s really hard to survive with only $400 a month.
3. Start a law firm ($60M/year)
Brian White from Houston, TX, USA started Attorney Brian White Personal Injury Lawyers ago, a law firm.
- Revenue: $5,000,000/ month
- Founders: 2
- Employees: 20
- Location: Houston, TX, USA
I came up with the idea to open the law firm when I was working for a large international law firm defending cases. I noticed that some law firms handled cases better than others. We knew some plaintiff law firms were settlers and would typically not fully work up cases and eventually would accept less than a maximum settlement, and certainly would not risk taking cases to the courtroom. It was clear that preparing each case for the courtroom and developing overwhelming evidence put pressure on insurance companies to offer far more money on cases.
I enjoyed the fight and knew that I could provide a far better service than many of the opposing lawyers in my cases. I knew that if I had their case, I could obtain far better results. It became frustrating because I saw many lawyers leaving significant money on the table. After all, they simply were not prepared or willing to try the case in a courtroom. So, I decided to take the financial risk and start my own law firm to dominate my cases to obtain maximum results for people.
4. Become a college counselor ($600K/year)
Pradeep Gaddam from San Jose, California, USA started ConnecPath over 5 years ago, a college counselor.
- Revenue: $50,000/ month
- Founders: 2
- Employees: 1
- Location: San Jose, California, USA
I started my career as a researcher at NASA where I helped scientists visualize data. It did not take long before I realized that research is not a place for me. I thought to join a big company would make it exciting for me, I then joined Intel Corporation only to realize that's not a place for me. It took me 10 years to realize that being an entrepreneur is where I felt more fit and excited. I always knew, If I had the right mentor I would not have wasted 10 precious years.
All this made sense to me, when I met my co-founder over a beer, he mentioned an interesting data point to me. The ratio between a high school counselor and students is 1:500, which means the amount of time, a student gets over their entire high school is 38 minutes. That clearly is a huge problem and interestingly of all the high school students that get into colleges, 40% of them either end up changing majors, colleges, not graduating on time or not graduating at all.
I think that's a very serious problem. I instantly connected with that problem and we decided that we will certainly fix it. That’s how we started on this journey.
5. Start a niche web design business ($300K/year)
Scott Bishop from Boston, Massachusetts, USA started Up And Social almost 9 years ago, a niche web design business.
- Revenue: $25,000/ month
- Founders: 1
- Employees: 1
- Location: Boston, Massachusetts, USA
I began my business career with the family in-store sampling business, C.A. Courtesy, in the 1990s, while at the same time attending college at Johnson and Wales University, where I pursued a degree in Web Management & Internet Commerce.
I’ve always had a knack for marketing and technology, and when I left C.A. Courtesy, I was the Vice President of Marketing and Technology.
People don’t remember what you say as much as they remember how they felt when you said it.
6. Start a barber shop ($1.5M/year)
Antonio Camilleri from Balzan started Antonio’s Barber Shop almost 8 years ago, a barber shop.
- Revenue: $125,000/ month
- Founders: 1
- Employees: 25
- Location: Balzan
My career has been a long road before I found success. Firstly I was a bar manager, then a soldier, then a bus driver, then a restaurant owner and chef. Finally, I decided to follow my grandfather's steps and become a barber. My grandfather was a barber on navy ships during WWI and WWII. I also worked in the UK for 5 years as a barber before opening in Malta.
The idea came about identifying a business opportunity and taking full advantage before the eventual competition, our success was the fact that we re-introduced old school barbering modernized and hip to cater for today’s gentlemen. In barbering, competition, when we started in Malta was non-existent. There were the typical hairdressers and 2 old school barbers which were unchanged since the ‘60s.
The idea was validated by my clients, one day a multi-millionaire came to get a haircut and I was discussing my concerns of growing and investing all my life savings into the business, his reply was “I just bought a company for 5 million euros over breakfast,” he just told me, “now is the time to invest and try creating something revolutionary.”
7. Start an art gallery ($4.2M/year)
Adam Vieira from Montreal, Quebec, Canada started Station 16 Editions / S16 over 9 years ago, a art gallery.
- Revenue: $350,000/ month
- Founders: 2
- Employees: 10
- Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada
I met Carlo De Luca (my partner and current president of Station 16) in 2010. I was very active in the Montreal street art scene and had many artist connections because of it. Coincidentally, he was also looking to diversify his textile silkscreen shop into paper printing, which I had been doing a lot of.
In 2011, we started working with local Montreal artists to create quality silkscreen prints - a type of printing made famous with Andy Warhol's work. We began showcasing these prints online and in art fairs. That’s when Emily Robertson (3rd founder, and Art Historian) came on board. She had taken an interest in our project and suggested we open an art gallery showcasing the prints and street art talent we were really interested in.
Shortly after that, a few other friends that we were in contact with were building on the idea of a Mural festival for Montreal. They asked if we would be interested in supporting it. So in June of 2013, we debuted at both the Gallery and the Montreal MURAL festival on St. Laurent. It initially opened as a pop-up, and we haven’t closed our doors since.
8. Start a life coaching business ($120K/year)
Sinem Günel from Vienna, Austria started Personal Growth Base over 3 years ago, a life coaching business.
- Revenue: $10,000/ month
- Founders: 2
- Employees: 0
- Location: Vienna, Austria
One and a half years after starting my studies in business administration I came into touch with entrepreneurship and I immediately knew that I wanted to dig deeper into how to build your own business and be your own boss.
So I started reading books, especially biographies, of successful entrepreneurs.
Pretty soon I found out there’s one major component all of them have in common: They all talk about their personal growth and how they had to improve themselves so that their businesses could grow.
This immediately triggered me and I started digging deeper into the topic of personal growth.

Hello everyone! My name’s Pat Stedman and I’m the founder of The Dynamic Man, LLC. I started the company in 2015 when I decided to officially break into Dating and Relationship Coaching.
My “high-quality problem” at the moment is that I have a very large number of clients, and need to find a way to balance fulfillment with future growth. I love the men I work with, and refuse to give up quality for increased revenue. It’s so rewarding to see guys come to you confused or hurt and to emerge confident and capable. Well, to make a long story short, my mother and I started this company together in 1996. I was working as a staff interior designer at a private firm in NYC, and my mother, Rosemarie was the manager of the Estate and Trust department at a large Law Firm. We both HATED our jobs and dreamed of doing our 'own thing'. We had no idea what that looked like, and so we turned to our passion..antiques and design.
That passion has morphed into a boutique design firm that boasts over 1M in annual revenue and has completed hundreds of trophy projects.
