How did Vitaly come up with the idea for Layer?
Vitaly was working in the field of AR and game development for over 15 years when he noticed a gap in the market. Despite a proliferation of productivity tools, none seemed to align with the natural way the human brain processes visual information. Inspired by his experience in creating Germany’s first AR-book bestseller and launching over 800 AR products, he envisioned a new tool that brought together the realms of creativity and efficiency in project visualization.
Motivated by a deep understanding of the industry, Vitaly spent eight years researching the potential of an intuitive, mind-mapping platform. He spoke to colleagues and mentors, gathering insights on how existing tools could be improved and adapted for various creative processes. Influenced by his spiritual guides, such as William Atkinson and Mabel Collins, he aimed to build something that could serve as a "second brain"—a platform where users could visually map out ideas and projects in a way that felt natural and engaging.
