Who are you and what business did you start?
Hi, I'm Sohaib Ahmad, founder of DM Champ, an AI sales agent for WhatsApp, Instagram, and website chat. We serve clinics, restaurants, service businesses, and agencies that lose deals because they can't respond to leads fast enough.
What makes us different is that we built the entire system around closing deals, not just answering questions. We engineered how conversations flow: when to push, when to back off, and when to say no. One client's AI rejected a discount three times on a $40K service. The lead came back and paid anyway. Today we bring in around $10K per month, serving over 150 businesses worldwide.
How do you come up with the idea for DM Champ?
I had my marketing agency and was doing the marketing for FueGenix, a hair transplant clinic we scaled from zero to over $10 million. I figured, let's do this for other clinics too. But across every client, the same problem kept showing up: we'd generate floods of leads, but businesses couldn't keep up with messages on WhatsApp, Instagram, and web chat.
Conversations went cold. Revenue disappeared. Every chatbot on the market was robotic and useless for actual sales. So I decided to build our own.
How did you build the initial version of DM Champ?
Sohaib Ahmad built DM Champ by recognizing a gap in the market after facing challenges with existing chatbot solutions. He focused on building an AI sales agent for WhatsApp, Instagram, and website chat tailored towards closing deals, not just answering questions. The development process involved engineering conversation flows to know when to push, back off, and say no. The first prototype successfully closed a $40K deal by rejecting a discount multiple times, demonstrating the effectiveness of the product. It took several months to build the first version, with challenges including optimizing for the right customer fit rather than just conversion rates.
How did you launch DM Champ and get initial traction?
Our first sale came through cold email. I targeted local clinics, got three interested, and only followed up with one. That clinic had less than 200 old leads sitting in a spreadsheet. We uploaded them, the AI had conversations via WhatsApp, and it generated €2K per month in recurring revenue. Later we listed on AppSumo as a self-select deal. Made €20K, got 300 customers, but 40% refunded because we got the pricing wrong. Biggest lesson: get your pricing structure right the first time, because platforms don't always give you a second chance.
What was the growth strategy for DM Champ and how did you scale?
We've used three main channels: cold email, AppSumo, and affiliate partnerships. Each taught us something different.
Cold email got us our first customers. I used Instantly to target local clinics, kept the messaging simple, and offered to reactivate their dead lead databases via WhatsApp. The results spoke for themselves, so conversations were easy. If you have a product that delivers fast ROI, cold email still works. You just need a specific offer, not a generic pitch.
AppSumo gave us scale. We listed as a self-select deal and got 300 customers, bringing in €20K in revenue. The mistake was pricing. Our cheapest tier attracted tire-kickers who just wanted to test and refund. 40% refund rate. The customers who stayed, though, gave us incredible product feedback. AppSumo users are serious about testing software and telling you exactly what's wrong.
The biggest single day came from an affiliate webinar. One of our team members knew a business coach in the Netherlands with a big audience. He ran a 60-minute webinar demonstrating DM Champ to 300 attendees. Within two minutes of the offer going live, we had $20K in Stripe. 80 customers. I'm not a webinar person. It felt cringe to me. But the numbers don't lie. A trusted person recommending your product to a warm audience beats any ad campaign.
The one thing that ties all of this together: we use DM Champ to sell DM Champ. Prospects have full conversations with our AI without realizing it. Then we reveal it was AI the whole time. That's the demo.
What were the biggest lessons learned from building DM Champ?
The biggest lesson: your AI is only as good as the outcome you optimize for. We built DM Champ to close deals. It got really good at closing. Too good. We ran Meta ads, hit a 15% close rate, felt like we cracked it. But customers churned after three months. Every time. The AI was convincing people who didn't actually need the product. High close rate, wrong customers. I had to rebuild the system to qualify people out, not just convert everyone. Most founders obsess over conversion rates. The real metric is customer fit.
