Hello! Who are you and what business did you start?
Hi, I am Ashutosh Rai from India. Studied Bachelor of Business Administration from Amrita University- Kerala. Also, I was an exchange student and went to the University of Groningen, the Netherlands in the final year of my bachelor's tenure. My academic performance has always been on top of my class. I have accomplished several projects and assignments across disparate areas of business. And have also completed various academics - projects in agriculture and management. I have started my professional career as a Business Development with a major role and responsibilities to generate revenue and add on new clients and develop overall business ventures.
Nevertheless, Becoming an entrepreneur has always been a passion for me and that’s how with the entrepreneurial passion and spark I have introduced my start-up PreppyPick in the Year 2020 as a Management Consulting platform that provides branding, promotional gifts, and manpower services to the corporate family, serving across India as well as abroad.
In a small span of time with the delivery of our services as per our commitment we have now associated and served more than 10 plus the renowned client’s from the industries of Real Estate, IT, BFSIs, Insurance, and many more. However, Yet to achieve major milestones but with our motto, we believe that very shortly we will be accomplishing our vision and mission by serving our commitment to the clients.
What's your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?
I started PreppyPick when I had just graduated from Amrita University. During my graduation tenure also I had worked on various ideas and participated in various business-plan competitions and other management National-level fests. I have always been disciplined, reliable, and conscientious with comprehensive knowledge in the arena of Management.
One very fine day I was discussing with my friends how brand plays a major role when it comes to the business. And later on, I started doing a little more research and drafted my Idea to create a platform where we can support the business to build their brand by providing Imprinted branding, a broad range of personalized promotional products for the businesses.
Moreover, my friend has supported me and has entitled my idea as PreppyPick and that’s how it has been proposed and initiated in the year 2020. However, the year 2020 has been a very tough time as the entire world was challenged due to COVID- 19. And nevertheless, many talents have lost their jobs and by keeping that in mind we have also introduced recruitment services as another wing.
Keeping pace with projects and being on the lookout for extremely talented individuals has become ever more challenging. We know how difficult the job market can truly be. Here is where PreppyPick comes into play to bring the best-suited talent for the company. We appreciate the experience that our candidates bring from various industries and we like to leverage it for the mutual benefit of both clients and candidates. Therefore, we at PreppyPick want our valuable users and partners to succeed and we won’t quit until they do.
Take us through the process of designing, prototyping, and manufacturing your first product.
We are a service industry specializing within the business of providing a one-stop office solution platform as corporate branding, promotional gifts, and manpower services. We are a young company that is fully owned and managed by a young team with a common mission to serve society.
So, our process for getting our services is quite easy i.e we are understanding the requirements or what exactly you are looking for after understanding the requirements we are proposing the best suited and feasible solution in regards to the services we are offering as a management consulting firm.
Describe the process of launching the business.
We are in the services industry and we have started with a good team. Well, Growth is nothing but teamwork. Initially, we have invested our time and talent instead of finance and we are working with a common motto that we have to be “slow but steady” and I believe we can manage the finance from the revenue that we have started generating. The same revenue we are investing back to the company to strengthen our presence in the Industry.
I have learned while launching that we must be very much motivated because initially there might be a chance that you will find obstacles to stand in the market but if you have a spark and consistency then I believe you will on the behalf of your entire team will achieve all the milestones.
Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?
Since launch, We are focusing on delivering quality rather than quantity. Initially, we have started with very few clients but In the small span of our startup journey, we are associated with and serving more than10 plus renowned clients across the country. Moreover, We have worked and we are still working to build the “TRUST” with our users and our valued partners.
In the entrepreneurial Journey Customer Satisfaction for any Company is very important and I would say, they are the “Sarvo Sarva”, they are the “GOD”. If they are not satisfied then I feel there is no point in running the business. Your major achievement of the milestone will count once you will retain and serve your old customer/user while adding new. Because customer satisfaction will help you to stand your business and they are proving the soft corner in the competitive market.
In our journey, we all are focusing to understand the problem, and after one-to-one counseling, we are offering our services which are helping us to get to know the exact requirements which will again make us ready to have Innovation in our services.
How are you doing today and what does the future look like?
With the consistency in the growth of our venture and the way we are expanding I believe we will be reaching up to 30,000USD in the coming financial year. However, we do have few challenges when it comes to the Industry but the way we approach will help us to sustain continuous and rapid growth.
Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?
I have learned to do the planning things ahead. Planning is all about a roadmap. Working hard on the right plan is very important before implementing any business idea.
- It will help you to understand where you want to go
- And once you have a purpose it will become easy for you to frame the milestone which you want to achieve in your entrepreneurial journey.
And nevertheless, if you have a solid and proper planning cum roadmap then the chances to get trapped in a disease called “FAILURE” will become very less. And, I believe it is going to be very much advantageous for everyone, especially during the starting phase of the business.
What platform/tools do you use for your business?
Well, we are fully focused on building trust with our potential customers. The services we are offering depend upon the quality and first, come, and first serve basis. Hence, we are getting a soft corner in such a tough market because of the services we are providing and satisfying our valuable users and partners.
Social media platforms are helping us a lot when it comes to delivering information to the target audience. Nevertheless, we are also giving more priority to the “References'' when it comes to our Industry.

These are the few books that have been of great influence to me.
Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting?
- Make a firm decision. Once we decide we have to do something with a clear purpose, we can go miles ahead.
- Have self-confidence.
- Learn at every turn.
- Understand the purpose and try establishing the habit.
And always remember Every successful entrepreneur was a budding and struggling businessman once.
