Hello, I am Mazhar Aslam Kathi, the Founder and Business Development Director of The Catalyst Business Development Consulting LLC, based right here in Salt Lake City. The idea for The Catalyst Business Development Consulting came from a place of empathy during my time as a Business Development Specialist at an upscale hotel in Salt Lake City. I interacted daily with incredibly talented individuals working survival jobs—like housekeeping or dishwashing.

I knew this was the right idea because I saw a profound disconnect—massive human capital being completely underutilized.
With an academic foundation in commerce from Ahmedabad and an established career in business development here in the States, I had the exact expertise needed to guide them. Unlike other concepts driven by my old "solo-warrior" hustle mentality, this vision was about architecting sustainable success for others. I validated the idea by recognizing that this gap wasn't just a social issue; it was a tremendous, untapped market opportunity. If I could be the bridge over those logistical barriers, I could help them launch real, scalable ventures. I believed in this so strongly that I liquidated four years of savings to fund the company.

When I launched The Catalyst, my strategy was pure hustle. Having liquidated four years of relentless savings, I couldn't rely on flashy ad campaigns. Instead, I wore every single hat—sales, marketing, operations—and personally reached out to the diverse, hardworking individuals I had met during my previous hotel career.
The response was overwhelming. People were hungry for guidance to navigate the U.S. business system. I landed my first client within a few intense weeks—a talented individual ready to transition out of a survival job and build something of their own. Earning that first dollar was deeply emotional; it validated that bridging the gap between untapped human capital and structured entrepreneurship was a desperately needed service.
The launch also taught me a crucial lesson about myself. I realized my "solo-warrior" mentality—while great for getting off the starting line—was becoming a bottleneck. I was micromanaging everything. To grow sustainably, I had to unlearn that extreme self-reliance and trust others. I learned I had to transition from being the "engine" of the business to its "architect." If I launched again, I would delegate much earlier to focus on the big picture.

I was quickly blindsided by burnout and realized that extreme self-reliance becomes a severe bottleneck for growth.

Building strategic alliances with local organizations and serving on the Mayor's Business Advisory Board established unshakeable trust. Timing and location were forces out of my control that helped immensely—launching in a rapidly growing Salt Lake City market just as a wave of diverse, untapped talent needed guidance through complex U.S. business systems gave us incredible momentum.
My core strengths—deep empathy and the ability to simplify intimidating regulatory mazes—have been vital. My top tip? Stop treating your business like a solitary crusade. A fatal mistake I constantly see new entrepreneurs make is isolating themselves to chase digital vanity metrics. Real business is built on human connection. Delegate early, and embed yourself deeply within your local ecosystem.
