CSS course designed for JavaScript developers
Josh W. Comeau grew his CSS for JavaScript Developers course primarily through his email list and social media presence, launching the course to his email list of about 28,000 subscribers and his Twitter followers of 31,000. He built early traction by sharing previews and content publicly, which helped generate interest and covert sales before the official launch. He also created a waitlist for updates on the course, which attracted about 11,000 people. His blog and email newsletter played significant roles in growth, with the blog attracting 60,000 to 90,000 unique visits monthly and serving as a source for his email list.

“Towards the end of 2020, I started building in public. I shared quick GIFs of things I was working on, previews of the content and the platform. ... This helped build some early traction, and I started covertly selling the course to people who had emailed me asking about it.”
“I also have a blog, joshwcomeau.com. The blog posts are essentially “deep dive” versions of the tweets... It gets between 60-90k unique visits a month, according to Google Analytics.”
“I started publishing way more on my blog and had a few viral hits. My most popular posts have topped around 100,000 visits.”
“I created a waitlist for folks who wanted updates on my CSS course. About 11k people have signed up for that one.”
