Who are you and what business did you start?

Hi! I'm Jimmy Su, founder of MDZ.AI, an all-in-one AI marketing platform built specifically for ecommerce entrepreneurs. After watching countless online sellers struggle with expensive, fragmented AI tools, I created MDZ.AI to consolidate 15+ premium AI models into one affordable subscription at just $49/month.

Our primary customers are Shopify and Amazon sellers who need professional product photography, compelling sales copy, engaging videos, and custom graphics. What makes MDZ.AI unique is that we're a complete marketing automation platform designed specifically for ecommerce workflows. Today, we're helping hundreds of online sellers save over $165/month while dramatically improving their marketing output.

How do you come up with the idea for MDZ.AI?

The idea came from my own frustration as an ecommerce seller. I was spending over $200/month on different AI tools - ChatGPT Plus for copywriting, Midjourney for product images, another tool for video creation. The "aha" moment hit when I realized I was constantly switching between tabs and managing multiple subscriptions just to create one product listing.

My background in software development and ecommerce gave me the technical skills to build a solution. I validated the idea by talking to 50+ Shopify and Amazon sellers in online communities. The response was overwhelming - everyone had the same pain point. What made MDZ.AI different from typical SaaS ideas was the focus on consolidation rather than adding another tool to the stack. Within two weeks of launching a beta, we had 100 paying customers who were thrilled to replace their fragmented workflow with one platform.

How did you build the initial version of MDZ.AI?

Jimmy Su built MDZ.AI by consolidating 15+ premium AI models into one affordable subscription at $49/month for ecommerce entrepreneurs. Leveraging his software development background, he validated the idea by talking to 50+ Shopify and Amazon sellers and launched a beta version within two weeks that attracted 100 paying customers. Su focused on a multi-channel growth strategy, including SEO & content marketing, community engagement, and a referral program to scale the business. His top lessons learned include obsessively talking to customers, pricing competitively at $49/month, and not trying to build everything from scratch but leveraging existing APIs for faster iteration.

How did you launch MDZ.AI and get initial traction?

I launched MDZ.AI with a simple landing page and posted it on Reddit's r/ecommerce and r/shopify communities. The response was incredible - within 24 hours, I had 500 signups for the beta. My first dollar came on day 3 when a Shopify seller paid $49 for early access after seeing how much time it saved him.

The key lesson? Don't wait for perfection. I launched with just 5 AI models integrated, not the 15+ we have now. Early adopters cared more about solving their immediate pain point than having every feature. I personally onboarded the first 50 customers via Zoom calls, which gave me invaluable insights into what features mattered most. This hands-on approach helped us achieve product-market fit faster than any amount of planning could have.

What was the growth strategy for MDZ.AI and how did you scale?

Our growth strategy has been multi-channel but highly targeted. Here's what worked:

SEO & Content Marketing: We created comparison guides like "MDZ.AI vs ChatGPT Plus + Midjourney" that ranked on Google. This brought in 40% of our organic traffic from people actively looking to consolidate their AI tools.

Community Engagement: I spent 2 hours daily answering questions in ecommerce Facebook groups and Slack communities. Not selling, just helping. This built trust and led to 30% of our early customers. One post where I shared a before/after of AI-generated product photos went viral and brought 200 signups in one day.

Referral Program: We offer existing customers one free month for every referral. This works because our users genuinely love the product and want to help their fellow sellers save money.

My advice for aspiring entrepreneurs: Focus on one channel that aligns with where your customers already hang out. Don't spread yourself thin across every platform. We ignored Twitter and TikTok initially because our target audience (serious ecommerce sellers) wasn't there. Instead, we doubled down on Reddit and Facebook groups where they actively discussed their pain points. Quality engagement beats broad reach every time.

What were the biggest lessons learned from building MDZ.AI?

The biggest lesson? Talk to customers obsessively. My worst mistake was spending 3 weeks building a feature nobody asked for because I thought it was "cool." Meanwhile, customers were begging for a simple bulk export function that took 2 days to build.

Best decision: Pricing at $49/month instead of $99. Lower price meant faster adoption and more word-of-mouth. We made it up in volume.

Luck played a role too - we launched right when ChatGPT went mainstream, so everyone was AI-curious. But we capitalized on it by being ready.

My top tip: Don't try to build everything yourself. I wasted months trying to perfect our own AI models before realizing I could integrate existing APIs and focus on the user experience instead. Ship fast, iterate based on feedback, and remember that done is better than perfect. The entrepreneurs I see struggle most are the ones who never launch because they're waiting for the "right time." There is no right time - just start.
