What's your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?

I started Financial Revision Group, Inc. as a result of going through a nasty divorce. My ex was deployed overseas at the time, and the judge ordered that I pay the accumulated debt.

At the time, I was a stay-at-home mom; my boys were 3 and 3 months. There I was, an Army Veteran without a job, no money, and moving back home with my mother. There was no way I could pay for anything, and as a result, the debt grew worse, and my finances took a big hit, and my credit score dropped tremendously. After a few years of being disgusted with my finances, I started inquiring about improving my financial situation. I began working toward increasing my credit score and to be honest, I tried a few well-known credit repair companies, and my score increased only a few points, and I still was being denied credit.

It wasn't until I became intentional about my financial wellbeing. I enrolled in training that focused on economic wealth and credit improvement, and it was then that I learned proven strategies to increase my credit score. Yet, that still wasn't enough.

The significant change occurred when I hired a financial coach who provided me with the proper tools I needed to shift my mindset and attitude about how I felt about money. As I started implementing result-proven strategies, I gradually saw my financial situation turn around.

I knew what I had done for me could be just what others needed going through the similar experiences I had gone through. I started by helping friends and family members with their financial situations and they started seeing results so that’s how it all started.

Describe the process of launching the business.

We used social media to help launch the business. About a week leading up to the launch date, we made a post letting our audience know what was coming up. We did a few posts afterward that gave some insight as to what the business was about. We had business cards and flyers created and passed them out. On the day of launch, we ran a promotion for our sign-up fee.

Financially, an investment had to be made for state and local requirements, and we opened a business bank account.

The lesson learned from the launch process is that you will never be completely ready to get started, you just have to start and improve as you go.

Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?

Since launching, we have noticed that the majority of our clients have been referred to us by previous clients. Word of mouth has been a successful strategy for us.

We do use social media as an avenue for marketing and educating, currently, we are not running paid ads; it’s something we look to do in the future.

How are you doing today and what does the future look like?

Today things are moving forward, we have helped clients remove over 40K of debt and our ultimate goal is to remove one million dollars of client debt.

Our average client invests about $900 over a period of 6-9 months in one of our most popular programs. There are no contract obligations so clients can remove themselves from the program at any time.

Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?

Since starting my business, I have learned that building relationships are very important. You have to be willing to step out on faith and trust the process, success will not come overnight but through hard work and dedication.

You must promote your business whenever possible, people will not who you are or what your business is about if you don’t get the word out.

What platform/tools do you use for your business?.

Favorite tools for my business are Squarespace; I used it to design my website; it's very user-friendly. Planoly is what I used to post all my social media posts automatically; I use Grammarly to help writing content; a fantastic tool. I also use Client Dispute Manager, software used to send contracts, emails, accept payment and manage clients.

What have been the most influential books, podcasts, or other resources?

To fulfill the spiritual aspect of my life, I listen to and watch Sarah Jakes Roberts. Related to business, I follow Dave Ramsey even though I can't entirely agree with everything he says. Two other favorites are Tiffany the Budgetnista and Patrice Washington. They both provide practical solutions for real-life money problems.

Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting?

If you are an entrepreneur and you are just getting started or want to get started, I suggest you decide from the beginning whether or not you are ready to commit to the process; starting a business will take some time and requires a lot of work.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes because you will, but the key is to learn from the mistakes and keep moving forward. I will also suggest never get to a point where you feel like there's nothing new to learn; there will always be something out there that can make you better.

The last bit of advice I have is to remain faithful to who you are and stay humble. Remember that your business will never be about you, but it will be about the people you serve and the solutions you provide.

Are you looking to hire for certain positions right now?

We are not hiring at the moment but as the business evolves it’s something we definitely will invest in.
